Week 1 - Response to content (New World)

The New Communication Technologies course is very different to anything I have done before. Talking about all the old technologies and all the new technologies and seeing all the different technologies noted in the required readings, really got me thinking. I find it absolutely amazing at how much the world has actually developed through the years in their forms of communicating. From smoke signals to texting via mobile phones: the idea is just mind-blowing. It is also kind of scary to think that some old forms of communications are slowly being disregarded. (see link 1) Just like Books! I love books and the fact that book stores have been going out of business is really upsetting me. E-books seem to be discouraging people from reading the real books that have been around for centuries. (2)

Ever since I was younger I have always loved to buy almost every book I read. My parents always tried to encourage me to just make trips to the library but I was set on creating my own on the bookshelf in my room. The newest technology that seems to be going around are the tablets and iPad’s with all their E-books and other applications for easy reading on the screen, but it’s just not the same as actually picking up a book and flicking the pages by yourself. (see links 3 and 4)

I am sorely hoping that the disregarding of books will cease to continue and someday make a comeback. Books hold history. You can read on the computer but if it blows up or dies, how do you get it back? Books are forever, as long as you look after them. Computers and all the new technologies are continually upgrading, and old editions disregarded. Lost information everywhere. Books are Forever.
