Week 10 - Tutorial Task (Essay - continued)

My Progress

After spending lots of time researching for my chosen topic I have found various websites and books that will help me to get my point across in an effective mannor. Looking for experiments related to animal communication, what communication actually is and what limits us from fully developed communication with other species of animals i found these websites and quotes that i hope to use:

Michael Corballis stated:

‘My own view is that language developed much more gradually, starting with the gestures of apes, then gathering momentum as the bipedal hominids evolved.  The appearance of the larger-brained genus Homo some 2 million years ago may have signaled the emergence and later development of syntax, with vocalizations providing a mounting refrain.  What may have distinguished Homo sapiens was the final switch from a mixture of gestural and vocal communication to an autonomous vocal language, embellished by gesture but not dependent on it.’[10]

‘miscommunication is still communication’ Renee Prunty

These messages are constantly being sent or received by an individual, which means that communication is a process that is continually taking place (Miller, 2005).

While this information may or may not be used in the final assignment I have gained a better understanding of what I want to talk about.
